General Information

Mail - Mail is delivered Monday through Friday and brought to your room by a volunteer. Patient mail should be addressed to:

A hospital volunteer will be glad to write or mail letters for you.

Flowers - Any flowers you receive will be delivered directly to your room. Flowers are not permitted in the intensive care unit or when there are special health situations. However, balloons and silk flower arrangements are allowed in these areas. To help insure the safety of our pediatric patients, please request balloons made of mylar instead of latex.

Meals - Your diet is an important part of your treatment and is prepared by our Food and Nutrition Department according to your physician’s instructions. You will be visited by one of our dietitians and special requests will be honored with respect given to your likes, dislikes and your doctor’s orders.

Patient meals are served during the following times:
Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Lunch: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Dinner: 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

If you are admitted after meals have been served, and you would like a meal, just ask your nurse to make arrangements for a late tray. Please allow up to 45 minutes for service.

Patients are encouraged to check with their nurse before having food brought in from outside the hospital to ensure that it meets your diet and nutrition needs.

The cafeteria is available to all visitors. Hours are as follows:
Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Grab and Go: 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Lunch: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Grab and Go: 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Closed: 3:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m.
Dinner: 4:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

If you have questions about your food, diet, or if you want to arrange a visit with a Registered Dietitian, please call Food and Nutrition Services at (434) 584-5264 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lost & Found - If you lose something while you are a patient or if you leave something behind, notify your nurse. Every effort will be made to see that missing articles are returned.

Hearing Impaired - A TDD (telecommunications device for the deaf) is available. Please contact the hospital operator or the nurse and this equipment will be provided free of charge.
