Group Prenatal Care

Pregnant women

Group prenatal care with a personal touch

You will receive the same attentive care that you would receive during individual prenatal appointments but with even more time to ask questions and learn about your pregnancy, childbirth and caring for your baby.

Group prenatal care appointments include:

  • Your prenatal check-up or "belly check" with your provider

  • Your weight and blood pressure monitoring

  • Review of important educational information for you and your baby

  • Time to ask your provider questions

  • Time to get to know other women in the group

Throughout the program a variety of educational topics will be covered including:

  • Nutrition

  • Body changes in pregnancy

  • Breastfeeding

  • Labor

  • Birth

  • Pediatric care

  • Postpartum adjustment

  • Newborn care, growth and development

When: 

Group Prenatal Care meets on the same day of the week and time for nine two-hour sessions.

Who: 

These are led by an obstetrician, certified nurse-midwife or nurse practitioner and consist of 8 – 12 women with due dates close to your own

Where:

Held at VCU Health CMH in the C.A.R.E. Building, 1755 N. Mecklenburg Ave., South Hill.

Why:

By playing an active role in your pregnancy and charting your own weight and blood pressure, you will become more aware of how your baby is growing as your pregnancy progresses.

You will appreciate:

  • Predictable, schedule-friendly start and end times for each session
  • Ample time to have the many questions that will arise during your pregnancy answered
