Injury Prevention Decorates Hallways
If you have ever seen a bulletin board on traumatic falls, domestic violence, or alcohol and driving then you have seen the AED Project in action.
The Awareness Education Documentation (AED) Project is an injury awareness and education program for hospital staff. Because injury prevention is a key component of academic trauma centers, AED is an effort to educate the hospital, internally, on injury prevention.
Well-educated staff have a window of opportunity to provide injury prevention education and available resources because patients and families are in a unique state, both physically and emotionally, to accept this information.
Powerpoint presentations are given to nursing staff and the staff is encouraged to designate a person to be responsible for creating these prevention bulletin boards. Continuation of these boards makes injury prevention a strong, visible initiative of VCU Medical Center to decrease traumatic injury in our community.
