Evans-Haynes Burn Center

Multiple medical disciplines work together to provide critical care to trauma patients, providing direct access to subspecialty experts. The Evans-Haynes Burn Center is regional resource for the care of acute burns and reconstructive needs of burn survivors and those injured from fire, chemical, scalds, electrical burns or skin loss injuries as a result from disease.

We offer a 16-bed unit with eight-bed intensive care unit (ICU) and eight non-acute beds, treating up to 450 adult and children patients every year. A section of the VCU Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Evans-Haynes is verified by the American Burn Association as a Level I adult and pediatric burn center – a mark of true distinction, and the only one in Virginia.

Pediatric Trauma Care

Pediatric trauma specialists at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) are available 24/7 to treat the most severely injured children. Our expert team provides care for serious traumas such as head and chest injuries. CHoR receives children and adolescents via ground ambulance or helicopter directly from the scene of injury, as well as transfers from community hospitals for children who require resources unavailable at any other healthcare center in Virginia.

We believe trauma care starts with prevention, and outside of CHoR’s walls we participate in a variety of community outreach programs around ways to stay safe, including concussion education, car seat safety, and more. Our trauma surgeons also work closely with families and patients throughout rehabilitation and follow-up visits.

Patient centered care displayed as circles with medical specialties surrounding it.
