Patient Information

We’re here to help you sleep better.

Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, our modern sleep center in Bon Air features spacious private rooms and personal amenities to get to the bottom of your sleeping issues.

A Center designed to improve your life.

Each of our six patient suites is furnished like a "real" bedroom, with soft lighting, carpet, and decorating touches, such as a sleeper chair for overnight caregivers and guests, to create a relaxed and comfortable environment.

Our pediatric rooms feature either two twin beds or a sleeper chair for a required parent or legal guardian to stay.

All recording and monitoring equipment is enclosed in a large, well-lit control center that is separate from the testing bedrooms. This allows us to maintain quiet in the halls during sleep studies. The control center is equipped with state-of-the-art sleep recording systems that save all patient data to computers for faster analysis and diagnosis.

Types of sleep studies

Depending on your specific sleeping condition, we offer a number of sleep studies to get to the bottom of your issue and get you back to sleep.

Overnight Sleep Studies

Polysomnogram

A polysomnogram is another name for a sleep study. We place sensors on your body that will monitor your body’s many systems and processes – including brain waves, the oxygen level in your blood, heart rate and breathing rate, as well as eye and leg movements.

Your test may also involve the use of a mask to introduce you to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), which treats obstructive sleep apnea.

Bedtime is generally by 10 p.m. Once the study starts, you will be monitored from the laboratory control room by your tech. Your study will end about 6 a.m., and you should be ready to leave by 7 a.m.

Daytime Sleep Studies

  • Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) - The MSLT is conducted after an all-night polysomnogram and consists of five short naps throughout the day at two-hour intervals. These nap periods range from 20 to 35 minutes in duration, after which you are asked to remain awake until the next opportunity.
  • Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) - The MWT may or may not require an all-night polysomnogram prior to testing and consists of four periods throughout the day at two-hour intervals, in which you’re placed in a dimly lit room in a semi-reclined position and asked to remain awake for up to 40 minutes.

These daytime tests are usually done by 5 p.m. (sometimes by 3 p.m.). We can let you know by 3 p.m. whether you need to stay longer, once we have reviewed the earlier trials of the study.

Home Sleep Apnea Testing

If sleep apnea is suspected, some patients meeting appropriate medical criteria may stay at home for their sleep test. In this case, you will take home a home sleep apnea testing (HSAT) device that you will wear to record your normal nighttime breathing patterns. We’ll provide instructions on how to use it.

Forms

New Patients

Complete and print a copy of the New Patient Questionnaire to bring with you to your new patient appointment.

Returning Patients

Complete and print the Review of Systems Questionnaire to bring with you. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.

Visitor Policy

We maintain an open visitation policy for overnight guests unless their presence would compromise test results. All patients under the age of 18 require the presence of a parent or legal guardian throughout the stay for the procedure. Accommodations available are limited to one parent or guest to stay under most circumstances.  Any special requests must be worked out with our staff prior to the appointment.

Direct Referring Physicians

When handling direct referrals, we operate as a testing-only facility and do not treat patients. Testing results are sent back to the referring office and any necessary treatment of direct referral patients will be handled by the referring clinician. If you would prefer our clinicians handle treatment, let us know.
