Otologic and Neurotologic Surgery

Overview

The Division of Otology and Neurotology continues to provide state-of-the-art care for patients with disorders of hearing, balance, ear, facial nerve, and the lateral skull base. For the last 40 years, MCV (now VCU Health) has a proud history of otologic care, including nationally recognized faculty, G. Douglas Hayden, M.D., George Williams, M.D. and Aristides Sismanis, M.D.

In addition to seeing patients with generalized hearing loss, ear infections, vertigo, and tinnitus – we subspecialize in acoustic neuromas, facial nerve disorders, otosclerosis, benign and malignant lateral skull base tumors, and implantable hearing devices (cochlear implants, osteoingrated implants including Baha and Ponto devices, and middle ear implants). Our Cochlear Implant team is the veteran team in Virginia and was one of the original FDA trial sites in 1984. The VCU team implanted the first child in Virginia and currently participates in several nationally funded research investigations.
