Neurotrauma
Not all neurological issues are due to disease. Trauma and accidents can lead to severe head injuries and may be may be cause for surgical intervention. Our program is one of the most prominent and long-established programs of its kind in the world. Neurotrauma physicians operate within the VCU Medical Center, Central Virginia’s only Level I trauma center. As a Level I Trauma Center, our state-of-the-art facilities and experienced staff mean we are well-equipped to handle even the most complex traumatic injuries 24/7. We treat children, adolescents, and adults.
With a patient care system backed by the VCU School of Medicine, our Neurotrauma team has made fundamental discoveries involving the cause and treatment of brain injury. VCU Health boasts more than 25 years of continuous National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding, giving us a unique combination of basic research, clinical research, and the highest level of clinical care.
This collaboration, supported by a world-class Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, has earned the Neurotrauma program a reputation as one of the top facilities for treating head injury with more than 30 publications generated each year.
