Biography
A nursing leader keeping people moving, healthy, and injury free
When you’re treated by nurse practitioner Margee Krebs, keep in mind she doesn’t only use her hands to care for patients — she’s a classically trained pianist, too.
“To become a great piano player or nurse practitioner means listening intently, understanding complexity, and performing your art with care and precision,” says Krebs, who is also a contralto singer (the lowest female voice) in an a cappella group and choir. “Piano and music teach you the importance of timing, balance, and touch — all equally vital qualities in a provider.”
Krebs has spent more than two decades working in primary care, obstetrics/gynecology and cardiology. At VCU Health, she is helping establish and grow the orthopaedics fracture prevention program.
“We help patients strengthen their bones and prevent fractures, which at an older age can be really detrimental to quality of life,” she said. Diet, exercise, medications and other therapy are all on the table, and Krebs and her team create plans that are personalized to each patient based on their goals and stage of life.
“I want to create partnerships with my patients,” says Krebs. “They know their bodies and individual experiences, and I know medicine. Together, we can problem-solve and improve their quality of life.”
Advice to Patients
“Find a provider with whom you can be completely honest and comfortable with and share your challenges. That way, we can develop solutions that will work for you!”
